Ostapenko A.A. - The model of full-time school: Ukrainian variant pp. 198-209

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0676.2020.4.33370

Abstract: This peer review analyzes the monograph published in Ukraine by Professors N. P. Lebedik and V. F. Morgun “The creation of full-time hub school as an educational complex". The work continues the traditions of the graduates of Poltava School of Pedagogy A. S. Makarenko, V. A. Sukhomlinsky, I. A. Zyazyun. The book offers the original variant of the model of an educational complex “A Full-time Boarding School”, and describes the normative legal, organizational-methodological and diagnostic approaches towards creation of such schools. The book is characterized by elaboration of all aspects of the school life: from detailed description of schedule to the options of school menu. The novelty of the proposed model consists in the following: a) the original unchangeable schedule of classes for the school day; b) nonstandard variants of organization of extended activities; c) models of combining different types of educational institutions; d) authorial outlook upon the arrangement of pedagogical activity in the cognate pedagogical systems. Particular attention deserves the proposed comprehensive diagnostics of social maturity of students as the integral indicator of school performance. Special place is held by description of the original health-saving invention of one of the authors – anti-scoliosis desk for either sedentary or standing work.

Ostapenko A.A. - Psychological-pedagogical analysis of the problems caused by pandemic: Ukraine’s perspective pp. 74-81

DOI:
10.25136/2409-8701.2020.4.33531

Abstract: This article is a peer review on two editions (in Ukrainian and Russian languages) of the online educational material “Psychology and Pedagogy in Countering the COVID-19 pandemic” and “COVID-19 in the context of Philosophy, Psychology and Pedagogy", published upon the initiative of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine. The developed by Ukrainian pedagogues, psychologists, physicians and social workers recommendations, aimed at maintenance of social stability in the conditions of global destabilization of socioeconomic reality caused by the COVID-19 pandemic ,can be valuable for foreign specialists. Part of the materials were prepared by the participants of all-Ukrainian Psycho-Pedagogical online campaign "ANTI-COVID-19 Assistance". Relevance of the presented materials is evident, since new challenges for practical psychology and social pedagogy were set by the pandemic, including psychological prevention and health hygiene in everyday life, rational humanization of society, and further democratization of separate individual and civilization as a whole. These and other issues are discussed in the educational material under consideration. Even though both versions were rushed at the height of the pandemic, they do not appear to be mal-prepared. This review is a small contribution to restoration of the scientific ties between Russian and Ukrainian scholars.

Ostapenko A.A. - History of development of pedagogical skill in Russia: an outside perspective pp. 117-125

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0676.2020.2.32804

Abstract: This peer review analyzes a monograph “Pedagogical Skill in Russia: history, theory, practice (mid XVIII – XX centuries” by L. A. Milto published in Ukrainian language in Kiev (2008). The goal of peer review lies in familiarization of the Russian language experts in the area of history of education and national pedagogical thought with a new perspective upon the development of pedagogical practice in Russia for the period of two and a half centuries. Modesty of the edition (300 printed copies) and language of publication makes the book virtually unreachable for the Russian audience. The review of the presented monograph is carried out in the context of retrospective analysis of the entire Ukrainian scientific school of pedagogical art. It is underlined that this research represents a worthy development of ideas of the academician I. A. Zazyun. Novelty of the monograph consists in viewing the evolution of Russian education in the aspect of determination of pedagogical findings, approaches of pedagogical art of school teachers and university pedagogues. Of special relevance is the analysis of memoir literature on the lecturing skill of the prominent Russian professors of the XIX century and pedagogical activity of theatrical pedagogues, stage directors and actors of the early XX century. L. A. Milto’s monograph greatly contributes to the history of development of the national pedagogy.

Ostapenko A.A., Ostapenko N.A. - The History of the Creation and Iconography of the Azov Icon of the Theotokos: a Study of the Little-Known Image

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0609.2016.3.19489

Abstract: The article presents an attempt at studying the little-known iconographic image of the Azov Theotokos, considered to have been irretrievably lost. The research subject is the history, iconography, and known manuscripts of the icon "the Sign of the Multitude of the World" (Azov icon of the Theotokos). The article describes the historical context and true history of the creation and historical fate of the studied icon, which is surrounded by many myths and speculations. On the basis of archival materials, art history and theological literature, and available images the authors conduct the first detailed analysis of the icon’s iconography. The research uses the following methodologies: study of theological, historical, art history literature, and examination of archival and museum material. The scientific novelty of the research consists in that this is the first detailed analysis of the Azov Theotokos icon’s iconography brought into the scientific context. Furthermore, the authors bring into the scientific art history context the image of the Vytegorskaya icon, considered to have been irreversibly gone but which was accidentally found in the Regional Studies Museum in the city of Vytegra in the Vologoroskaya region. Furthermore, the article for the first time attempts to textologically analyse the inscriptions made on the studied icon.
